Product Manager (Cloud Foundry) at Cloud Foundry (London, England)

$

0

The Cloud Foundry team at Pivotal in London is looking for a great Product Manager to join us in building our open platform as a service (PaaS), transforming how the world deploys and scales software.

You

You are passionate about the cloud-based future of infrastructure provisioning and software deployment. You understand why PaaS isn’t just a buzzword but a game changer. You have a deep empathy for what current operations and development groups experience with traditional provisioning and deployment practices, and you want to help them find a better way.

Although you have a high-level vision of how the right PaaS technology can fundamentally change corporate IT, you are grounded in the concrete details of making that vision into a reality. You can identify clear incremental steps forward to that overarching vision. You enjoy working closely with programmers to hammer out the details and ensure that the emerging implementation does what you expected.

Us

Pivotal Cloud Foundry is co-developed with Pivotal Labs, a leader in the field of agile software development. We are opinionated about how software should be built. Product Managers are embedded with the engineering team. Engineers pair program, all-day every-day, because we know it delivers remarkable results. We work in small teams in a large open team room. We believe in working at a sustainable pace – you’ll typically work hard for 8 hours each day, but then you’re off work to relax, recharge, and refocus.

As part of the London team, you’ll be helping build our managed services such as Redis and RabbitMQ and helping understand the challenges faced and the tools required by other services teams and partner companies to enable their success in building products on the Pivotal Cloud Foundry platform. Or you could be working on our containerisation technology which powers Cloud Foundry and collaborating with the open source community on the runC specification.

Where

Pivotal Cloud Foundry engineering is located in London, near Old Street roundabout.  To make sure you start your day energized, we provide a catered breakfast every weekday morning, and unlimited snacks/drinks are of course available all day. Our collaborative, open-plan office space is filled with talented people who enjoy taking advantage of our weekly Tech Talks, playing ping pong, and hanging out with their co-workers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a product vision by engaging with internal stakeholders, customers, and the broader PaaS community, then break that vision down into an actionable backlog of user stories for the development team

  • Work hands-on with the development team to prioritize, plan, and deliver software that meets your requirements

  • Focus on delivering a Minimum Viable Product through careful and deliberate prioritization

  • Help innovate and iterate on agile PM processes and share our learnings

  • Actively engage customers and the community of users

Who are we?

Ten is the global leader in the highest quality lifestyle and travel concierge services. We are profitable, with revenues of £30+ million and are growing at over 40% pa, led by the UK (our home market), and our 17 strong global office network. Two million wealthy people currently use our services through corporate schemes and our private membership network. We have the model, team, platform, investment and ambitions to become the worlds largest and most trusted service.

The biggest opportunities for us are being driven by digital - how we grow, manage our clientele and deliver our services. We are already online and mobile but it is early stage and we can do so much more from a successful base. Where we have launched digital we have already seen half of our activity migrate online. We have agreed plans to launch our digital platform to large numbers of the most valuable customers of many more of the worlds top premium brands.

Our digital offering already covers travel, dining, ticketing and retail - giving our clients access, pricing and expertise that is not available to the public anywhere else. Over the next 12 - 24 months we are taking this global, whilst maintaining our premium positioning and developing further strategic partnerships to embed our ever-improving digital services into our clients daily lives. We are searching for a Lead Developer role to build a new internal team to work in tandem with our (external) software partner.

Please have a look at the following video which explains the digital service in more detail (albeit it is a little dated) https://vimeo.com/142117052.

The Role

Weve spent the last two years building a digital platform to power our online concierge service, working to serve high net worth members on behalf of financial institutions, luxury brands, and companies that place a premium on delivering excellent customer service.

We work globally and investing significantly in technology whilst embarking on a journey to being a product led organisation with technology at its heart. We have made significant programming and infrastructural advances in the past two years, and now have a solid base and foundation to work from. As a result, Tens digital platform is the first of its kind in the lifestyle sector.

This role will focus on building: teams (hiring talent to work under you); code (Python and Django see below); and product growth. You will do this whilst working in partnership with the software agency we've worked with to build our digital products to date.

Amongst others, our stack comprises:

  • Python
  • Django
  • Django CMS
  • Redis
  • Postgres
  • BizTalk
  • boto

We use Python (and Django) because its easy and quick to build useful, functional, and beautiful services and applications in. We understand that there sometimes is only one way to really hit the brief, and at other times flexibility is key. As Head of Engineering, youll work with the Managing Director (Product & digital) to make these calls. The developers you build around you may not always be Python experts, but our Lead Developer (i.e. this role) should be. Either way, language should not get in our way of enabling us to design feature-rich software that truly meets our users needs.

It goes without saying: youll create new, maintain existing, and qualify pre-production and production environments and you / your team will be tasked with managing and documenting the technical requirements for the project in collaboration with the Senior Product Manager.

Youll be a good fit for the challenge ahead if:

  • You know all there is to know about Python, Django, JavaScript, Postgres, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • jQuery, Backbone, AWS, and APIs get you excited.
  • You want to build a team of developers.
  • You enjoy wearing many hats Lead Developer / Systems Architect / DevOps / Mentor.
  • You are open, inclusive and collaborative. Were building a new team of developers, designers, strategists, data experts, and operationally experienced colleagues. Well all work together.
  • You can show us commits in Git, talk us through live projects, and point us in the direction of things youve tried (whether theyve worked or not).
  • Youre excited by joining as (Internal) Developer #1 and working with us to grow a full tech capability inside and core to our whole organisation. The entrepreneurial and hungry absolutely must apply.
  • You have a solid computer science degree.
  • Youll enjoy contributing to functional and technical design.

Benefits

Remuneration and Benefits

  • A competitive salary.
  • Access to lots of great travel and entertainment discounts.
  • A full month off every 5 years.
  • The opportunity for real career development. All staff are encouraged to incorporate their aspirations and interests into their career.

The environment is modern, friendly & vibrant and everybody who joins Ten has the opportunity to develop a rewarding career within an organisation, which is widely considered to be one of the best in the business.

NB. The Lead Developer will report to the Managing Director (Product & Digital) and be based in Tens London office, on Euston Road.

Senior JavaScript Developer - Full Stack - £50k at Flow XO (Manchester, UK)

$

0

Senior Full Stack Developer - Node, Angular, MongoDB, Redis, Message Queues - Padiham (40 minutes from Manchester) - up to £50k + benefits.

We're a B2B startup with strong financial backing, big ambitions and plans for rapid growth. Our product makes it easy for businesses to build, host and manage bots in messaging platforms such as Facebook Messenger and Slack. Try it at https://flowxo.com.

What does the work involve?

You'll be working on both the front-end (Angular) and also the back-end (Node, MongoDB, Redis and a message queue). The work is challenging, as we're building a platform that is sending and receiving messages to/from several platforms.

Although there's obviously some complexity in the codebase, we've worked hard to reduce technical debt, achieve excellent test coverage, and follow conventions where possible. So you'll be joining a project where most of the working day is spent thinking about the future rather than catching up with the past. That's not to say our work is done, we have a long way to go!

The role is for a senior developer, who will lead other developers as we grow our team in Padiham, UK. It's a 40 minute commute from Manchester, with plenty of free parking and a view of the countryside!

The team

We're a small team split between head office (near Manchester, UK) and remote developers based in the UK and worldwide. Tools such as Trello and Slack help us communicate. We try and make roles, responsibilities and goals clear so that we can each get on with our own work without needing to be in constant communication.

Ideally, you will:

  • Have experience of Node, Angular & MongoDB.

  • Preferably have worked with Redis and MySQL too.

  • Know common tools such as Git, unit testing frameworks, and PaaS such as Heroku.

  • Have worked with API's, and are familiar with SOAP, XML, JSON and API authentication strategies.

  • Be engaging, approachable and pragmatic.

  • Be great at written communication.

  • Be thorough. Always be considering 'what if', so you can write code and design logic that is robust and secure.

  • Have commercial acumen and business awareness.

What's in it for me?

  • A very competitive salary.

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Part-time remote working available.

  • A great team.

  • Free parking.

  • We're a business that believes in finding great people, giving them clear goals, and letting them get on with the job.
